January means the beginning of 2010. As we enter a brand new year, my prayer is that this will be a year of great forward momentum for us. I am praying that we will grow and change, stretch and reach, and rise to meet every challenge the Lord sets before us in this New Year. Easter Sunday is April 4.
I mention that to you now - three months out - because we are already praying and planning for it to be the greatest harvest day we've had in a long time. If you were here the night Bro. Sammy preached in July, you heard him talk about GPS - God's Plan for Sharing. Many of you came to the altar that night and committed yourselves to making it a reality. The goal of this first GPS emphasis is to join with sister churches in our association and across Alabama to put the gospel in every home in our state. We have been assigned part of that larger vision.
Here is what it means. On March 20, we will divide into teams and prayer-walk somewhere between seven and ten thousand homes in the city of Florence. Can you imagine the awesome opportunity of praying for that many people in one day.
On March 27, we will divide into teams again and distribute the gospel to those same seven to ten thousand homes. That sounds like an unattainable goal until you understand what we will be asking you to do. Unless God presents you with a divine appointment, you will not even be asked to talk to anyone. You will simply hang a plastic bag on each door with a printed copy of the gospel presentation and an invitation to join us at Highland on Easter Sunday. Leading up to those days of
prayer and gospel distribution our area will be saturated with outstanding media advertising done by our state convention. All of it will work together to attract people to our churches on Easter Sunday and we are believing God for the salvation of many of them. We are praying for and will be working for the harvest. You will hear more and more about this as the New Year begins, but please mark your calendars and plan to be part of what very well may be the greatest Sunday we've ever spent. We must be faithful in sowing, watering, and cultivating the seed and we must trust God for the harvest.
